ACQUAIR
SMART HUMIDIFIER

ACQUAIR is a smart humidifier and natural air purifier that explores a closer relationship between domestic technology and nature. By integrating a living plant directly into the appliance, the project rethinks humidification as part of a broader indoor ecosystem rather than an isolated electronic function. The shared presence of water, air and vegetation creates a calmer and more natural way for technology to exist within the home.

Designing Around a Natural Cycle
The concept brings the humidifier and plant together through a shared water system, allowing both functions to coexist within one compact architecture. Developing this relationship required balancing tank capacity, plant placement, airflow and the proportions of the appliance, while keeping the overall form visually simple and suitable for domestic interiors.

Blending Nature and Technology
Integrated sensors monitor temperature and humidity, allowing the device to automatically adjust mist output and maintain a comfortable indoor environment. At the same time, the plant becomes both a functional and visual element of the product. The vertical opening visually connects the two volumes, while the soft geometry and restrained interface help the appliance feel closer to an interior object than a conventional humidifier.

From Appliance to Living Object
The final concept transforms the humidifier into a more integrated part of the domestic environment, combining smart climate control with the presence of a living plant. Rather than concealing nature behind technology, ACQUAIR makes it part of the product experience, creating a softer relationship between appliance, user and space. The project received the 2025 iF Design Award.
